No Waiting

Create an emergency preparedness plan.

In a true emergency, if I am not grabbing my phone to call for help or finding dressing to cover a wound, I am asking God what he wants me to do in the moment.

While driving in the thick fog one day in 2001 with my husband, I prayed we would get home safely.

Suddenly, I felt what I thought was my husband’s hand on my right shoulder. Then, I could have sworn he yelled, “Turn!”

I did. Turning right kept me from running over a man in the middle of the street. I said, “Thanks.”

My husband looked puzzled and said, “Huh?”

He hadn’t touched me. He  had not seen the man in the road. I pulled over, completely off the road surface. I prayed. I thanked God for safety. I talked. He listened. I listened, and, I waited. The fog lifted. We continued on our way. Nowhere worth going is worth dying to get there.

In scary emergencies, we are often told, “No, wait.” Waiting is part of the emergency. What do we do with the wait time? Talk to God. Listen to God. He is Mighty. Nothing is ever an emergency to Him. People say that life doesn’t come with directions or a guidebook. I agree to disagree. The Bible is our guidebook. God knows our needs and our fears. There is always time to say His name, the name of Jesus, in an emergency.  He is already there fighting for us, protecting us, and helping us in our emergency, no waiting.
