Marsha, Marsha, Marsha

What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

When I was a kid, tv was mostly a safe, make-believe place. We watched Gilligan’s Island, The Brady Bunch, Charlie’s Angels, and The Dukes of Hazzard. At night, the whole family watched Little House on the Prairie, unless the Cubs were playing.

When the series Dallas came out, my mom talked to the tv, telling each character what he or she could do better, and we all loved/hated JR. We were shocked when he was shot and Bobby came back to life in the shower.

At school, we pretended to be the the stars, especially Charlie’s Angels. I never got to play Farrah Fawcett. Girls wanted to be her. Boys wanted to date her.

The lives, the real lives of the stars, were hidden to us kids. Real life to me as a kid was play, make-believe, and easy. It’s not like that now, Marsha. There’s too much adult ugly on tv, and too much real in reality. I wish we could all go back to the ease of old times, free play, and make-believe.
