Joy in Transformation

Why do you blog?

Why do I blog? I have 4 specific, powerful reasons.

I didn’t always think, do, or eat this way. I did as many in the world do. I was sick, obese, pitiful, and miserable. But God…

1. To share Jesus with the world.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16 KJV)

This verse specifically means we have a right to go to directly to God to talk to or hear from Him about anything. We are important to God. He wants an open-door  relationship with us. We are meant to be His bold, powerful creations, made in His image. What we find in the throne room is love, forgiveness, power to fight through the challenges of life, compassion, and unearned favor. We are all our Father God’s favorite child. Talk to Him like a child, from your heart to His heart. He is Mighty and He loves you. God shook me awake by the power of His Spirit. He grew in me a power, a need for change, a desire to get out of my pity party and fight for myself. So, with His help, I did.

2. To share my journey from 35 years of marital abuse, depression, and suicidal thoughts, and more than one suicide attempt to freedom, purpose and lasting joy.

I believe that my Father God is the only One who has the right to take me home. It will be a joyful home-going indeed. I hope my family skips my funeral and has a sing-in, potluck, storytelling picnic instead.

3. Happiness is a momentary choice. A life of joy is many choices over time.

People of the world are sad, depressed, hopeless, and think nothing can change. There is a great Changemaker and Joybringer. His name is Jesus. His Spirit can bring such a powerful change. If a person made new by the Spirit were to look back at his or her old hurting self, that old self would be almost unrecognizable. Still you, just in the past.

4. The mind, body, and spirit are created by God.

The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. I have to take care of the temple. I eat foods from the Bible or the Daniel Diet. I discovered that I love flavor and spices. Cooking brings me joy and satisfaction. I am 85 pounds lighter, healthier, not diabetic, do not take blood pressure medicine, and do sleep well at night. I believe my food choices are a huge part of this. I want to share them so other people can be healthy, too. When I first told my husband I was doing the Daniel Diet, he said, “I ain’t eating grass.” He meant a bunch of vegetables and no meat. I continued to cook his regular meals, but I changed. Today, in the nursing home, he eats double portions and is the heaviest and sickest physically (aside from his dementia) that he has ever been. It is his choice. My choice is to care for my body. I enjoy the abundance of flavors, colors, smells, and wonders of clean eating. I continue to try new dishes and ingredients from different countries, and I happily meet new friends along the way.
