What details of your life could you pay more attention to?
Using my best higher order thinking skills I give my attention to adult tasks. The trouble with all that adult thinking, prioritizing, and doing is that it isn’t any fun. I would rather pay more attention to playing.
I would be happier if I could play Majong with my sisters or focus on my cards in a game of Swap. My doctor said that ninety-five percent of adults over thirty will never sprint again. Sad. I miss the freedom of riding my bike, playing with clay, and painting pictures with a marble, a straw, and a pan. When adults forget how to play or won’t give themselves permission, it’s the saddest. That means they really are old and dried up inside.
Playing, losing track of time on purpose, gives me a real mental and emotional break. I need it like a plant needs water. When I work, I make messes I have to clean up, but when I play and get dirty it’s fun. Hmm. I also noticed that when I work, I am silent, but when I play, especially outside or in the kitchen, I sing. I think in working, I shut off parts of me so I don’t make a mistake of nonfocus, but in play, all of me is free. That’s why I like and need to play more because it allows me to be free. I can never forget how to play. I don’t want to be old.
