When you think of the word “successful,” who’s the first person that comes to mind and why?
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, He may give it you.” John 15:16
This verse, spoken by Jesus, is our invitation to participate in the most successful relationship of the universe, between One and Only God and man, us His beloved creation. This love relationship can never fail. His invitation is a calling for direct action on our part, to participate to bring God glory.
Nothing happens without action. No business, or star, or money on Wall Street is made without an action, a “do.” Each of us has a role, a responsibility, a stewardship, a do that makes the relationship work.
Doing right is a choice. We make choices every minute we’re awake actively or passively. Do we honor God? Each choice bears fruit, sweet or rotten. Some choices grow quick beautiful success. Other choices hide until they give birth to wasps that make homes in dark places of our minds that come back to sting us again and again for years.
Knowing that my Father, who is everything to me, sees my efforts, and that my choices count for something, Someone Greater than myself, makes me bold. My love for Him, my desire to be like Him, both make me want to be successful like Him, to be a Fisher of men for the Kingdom of God.
I would rather be known by right choices I have made, fruit of my relationship with my Father God than my past mess, which He forgives.
Because I choose to honor Him, I am successful. No matter the world’s definition of that word, in relationship, I inherit the kingdom. I have an irrevocable right to boldly go to ask in Jesus’ name for whatever I need (Hebrews 4:16). He, God Himself, chose me, to create me, and to love me. All He asks of me, the only “do” He asks, is that I do love Him back.
At the end of life a measure of success should be “They saw Jesus in her.” This is our purpose, to honor and glorify God, our Most Successful Divine Creator.
