Furries

What is good about having a pet?

Furry pets are four-legged life coaches. They teach us to be better versions of ourselves. When we are stressed, they calm us and help us breathe. They teach slugabeds to rise early and face the day with joy and expectation.

They teach the lonely to make friends and keep them. They listen endlessly to troubles and never tell secrets. When we talk, furry pets look us in the eye and make us feel valued. When we hurt, they comfort with their warmth, and they stay. When we cry, their eyes peer into our souls. When we need a hand out of quicksand sadness, they make us laugh.

Furry life coaches teach us how to put life, death, and freedom into perspective. They show us rewards of putting needs and wants of other beings before our own. They model the good in taking care of ourselves, getting exercise, and running for the fun of it. Furries know fun when they see it. They play with all different kinds of friends. Yet the soldier in a furries’ heart stands long and fights hard to protect what’s his with ferocious pride.

When danger comes, a furry is alert and prepared. When danger’s done, furries truly understand rest, time to take a break, stop now, a nap is a good, good thing. Last and most importantly, furries know the value of touch and connection to another being. They touch to remind us they are there, that they care, that they choose us, and that we are their people.
