Do you trust your instincts?
Consider the Creator of instincts. I refuse to bow down to the ugly in this world. In Daniel 3 in the Bible, King Nebuchadnezzar threw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, three Jews, into a fiery furnace made seven times hotter than normal just for them. The king felt mad jealousy because these young men refused to worship his golden statue exactly when and how he commanded. When the king’s soldiers came close to the fire to toss in the trio, they burned to death. The young men survived the blaze because God sent an angel, a Fourth Man in the Fire to walk with them to turn away the flames. When the men came out, they did not even smell like smoke.
Do I trust my instincts? Now, I do. I have learned to sense beyond my conscience to listen for the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit. I have a peace in wholly trusting, like the trio, that God will work all things for my good. I make some horrible choices sometimes, but I don’t wallow in them or carry them like bags of rocks anymore. I don’t have to twist myself up worrying if my instincts are right or wrong. I have the God-given strength to stand. I have a Fourth Man in My Fire. My Father always catches me when I fall.
