How have your political views changed over time?
I used to think that my choices only mattered to me. My parents voted in the opposite party. It upset me as a young woman, but not enough to make me act.
I believed that there were enough people already voting my way. I figured the Electoral College would keep the country from going nuts.
I was SO WRONG. If I want a future for my five grandsons, (yep, another boy, woohoo, thank you, Jesus) I must vote. I must speak out when topics come up, politely and clearly.
Just like I have a right to approach the throne of Jesus to ask for mercy in a time of need (Hebrews 4:13), I have a right to calmly and appropriately write to, call, and visit my political representatives, no matter their party affiliations. I care, so I should be invested in the decisions people make for my family. I can’t just sit back and let crazy run me over like a freight train. There’s too much at stake to take the lazy woman’s way out and let it be somebody else’s job. Making and keeping a good, safe, free place in which my family can live and practice our faith with boundaries that don’t become prisons is my right and my responsibility.
